Rumor ~ Black Cubic in the Set.2? ~

blackcubic.gifSummary: There is a rumor about Set.2 having the black cubic.  Whether it is true or not, it will be yours to decide for now, but the answer will be here within couple weeks from now.

Rumor: “The Set.2 will have Black Cubics”

Source: Japanese facebook equivalent forum.

First of all, NO we are not talking about the famous EOJ site blackcubic.com.  We are talking about the possibility of having the actual black cubic cards in the upcoming Set.

The source is definitely considered as the weakest evidence.  So under normal circumstances, I would have ignored these kinds of rumor.  However, since there was nothing else better to do  the user who posted this information orignally had previous record of uploading the Set.2 theme deck packages about 1 week prior to that was shown anywhere else including SCE official EOJ forum.  So I have decided to take a bit more attention to this rumor, and share this with the readers of this blog.
Some people on the forum speculate this might be an indication for new element,  but there are couple reasons why I don’t think this is the case.  One being that we already know there will be only 4 cards in the Set.2 that are not categorized as any of 5 elements nor as spell.  (See Set.2 Q&A Summary from SCEA Marketing Manager’s Blog)

If black cubic represent this new element then that leaves only 3 other creatures for the new element.  Three seems a bit odd number plus  just 4 creatures seems too small for creating a new element.

Though I would love to see new element, which I will perhaps write about in the future wishlist series, I highly doubt this is the case.

So if the rumor is true, what can black cubics be?

My guess would be it’s the elemental cubic equivalent of biolith.  The only issue I have with this hypothesis is that I’d rather be convinced with SILVER cubic for biolith than black given the biolith creatures’ color; however, black definitely sounds better than silver.

The black seems a bit odd color to go along with biolith and the source is low in evidence value.   Despite these things, cubics are mascot in the game of EOJ; therefore, I would not be surprised if the developers decides to continue creating new cubics for each expansion.  So overall, I would guess there is 65% chance that Set.2 will have black cubic.

If there is a Black Cubic in set 2, I’m 95% sure it will be the biolith cubic like you said. The only question is, would it allow you to play biolith cards without first unlocking the board? I wouldn’t be surprised if a biolith cubic ended up costing more than the others.

black cubic should be 0 cost to bring out and let you play the cubic of your choice for free

  3. I would not mind seeing a “sacrifice this cubic to pay the mana cost of any spell” effect. If we are making bets even though that might be a long shot that is what I am betting on. Once again you have an awesome Blog. I am actually a bit jealous at your news gathering ability and gonna have to step up my own game.

  4. Since we are making prediction even though this is a long shot this is what I would like to see. “Sacrifice this cubic to pay the mana cost of any spell”

    @d co,

Good one. You save 1 mana to cast actual creature in 2 turns. Or in fact, you can just have your opponent kill the black cubic and gain 1 mana.

    @ Gunkata,
Spell cubic? That’s actually very interesting idea. I think I had my own cubic idea as well but never thought about cubics for the spells. I really think it’s a great idea and definitely like to see it implemented.

But I feel like spell cubic would be Purple in color…

    Thx for the compliment 🙂
