How is Set.3? ~After 2 days~

Summary: So both Japan and EU already have Set.3 for about 3 days.   What are their reactions to the new cards so far?  Is there any Missionary equivalent?  Has the near perfect game balance restored?  Here is what Japanese people are saying so far.

Because of so many different power cards added with Set.3, my former ace, Battle Master, is now became sacrifice bullet for Summoner Mesmer’s Lapse.

Logan Zurtur is so strong.  It’s pretty hard to get attack in all three directions, but most of times it’s pretty easy to get 2 directions.  4 mana with 6 total attackto two creatures is nothing but awesome.  So many hard hitters added to the game, and now it’s hard to decide when to use those.

Slumber Trap is awefully useful.  I used it, and saw that the opponent has Biolith Infestation in his hand.  So I summoned my Biolith Mage Guard to interrupt the spell next turn.

And most common question asked was from those people who quit the game soon after the Set.2 came out secondary to Missionary, “Is the game balance restored after the Set.3?”

In this early stage of the game, nobody can answer for sure; however, it sounds like there is no obvious broken cards in the game identified yet.  Some have said,

It’s now hard to win game with Winny decks, or Biolith deck.  Combo decks seems much more stronger now.

I really like this type of comment.  As I have referred numerous times in the past that essentially the game should be Rock-Scissor-Paper relation.  Biolith Deck is considered as Reset type.  Winny is considered as Speed Type.  Combo Deck is the third type.  Each should have strength over the other.  In the past, despite the Combo deck being the biggest theme of Set.2, Winny and Biolith were much stronger than even well built Combo decks.  So more people say something like above makes me think the game is more balanced.

Sony stated that with the release of Set.3, there is counter (metagame) to every strategy.  So metagame against one deck type can be metagamed again and so on. This is indeed the goal for every CCG out there, so it’s easy to say but hard to be done.  The time will only tell, but let’s hope Sony has achieved their goal.

    I already got all kinds of SET3 cards.
    It was easy to complete more than SET2 or 1.
    I built a new “strong” lizard deck.
    The deck is so cool! Especially fire Fantom is very good.

    @Real Gambler,

    “So far so good” as in: The comments from those lucky ones who have the cards are great.

    Nope, didn’t had my cards. My only experience with set 3 is beating the decks. Sadly, I kind of had an easier time beating the set 3 cards, so those premade decks are not that great.

    Still, those cards look awesome. Now, does somebody knows how to get the last two trophies? (gold and platinum)

    here is the list of all trophies.

    https://houshasen.wordpress.com/2008/09/26/list-of-full-eoj-trophies/

    Gold – I believe is the one that you have to win numerous times online, but no specific information is known yet. (whether simple # of wins, rank, or points)

    Platinum – Need to obtain all other trophies.

    Set 3…

    Fiendish.
    Brilliant.
    Deep.
    Strategical.
    Daunting.
    Fun.
    Frustrating!

    Amazing.

    Predictions?
    Forget the dwarf deck…
    Dodge decks are back with vengence…
    All hail Siam’s sentry…
    Biolith garden = amazing after a lapse
    And my tip-top top card…
    The one I couldn’t do without…
    In any deck (well, there’s a few…)
    Scion’s Peace.
    What a nifty little card.
    I’ve decimated a board with that one card…
    Against an opponent who had an earth deck and 23 mana at one point…
    I won!

    Set 3?

    Unbelievably good.

    Sorry Houshasen, I meant, what do you really have to do to win the gold one. I have all the other trophies. I have over 500 online wins, over 2000 honors, over 70 pts in the new ranking system, so it does look like old stats have nothing to do with it. It’s quite likely new wins you have to get as of today? I thought maybe somebody would know on the asian forums… Sadly, if it’s new online wins, as usual, North America is getting screwed, since we are waiting for our set 3 cards, and have to play those games with our old cards… Sad.

    @ Real Gambler…

    Yes the gold trophy is a little vague…
    All I can suggest is when you get your new cards, test them out online, the more games you play, the better! I’m sure it’ll be 50 or 100 something of that nature…
    Similar to Buzz?
    Win 50?
    It’ll be a nice little surprise to hear it go ‘bling’ when you get it though!

    Slumber Trap – gotta love that card!

    Hard Bargain – so frustrating but worth it!

    Siam Sentry – the best

    Moggy – hard to get out but effective!

    Biolith Sentry – very good

    Scion’s Peace – essential

    Leapfrog Warchief – brilliant

    🙂

    @RealGambler,

    As far as what I have heard, it is still unclear about the gold trophy. But there has been a talk that it is related to your online stats, but I believe the count starts as new since the install of Set.3 just like other trophies.

    @Fongy,

    Really glad to hear about Set.3 from someone using it. In fact, I am epecially greatful regarding to your talk about Water deck in comparison to Earth deck. This is because I saw japanese forum had a few comments as Earth deck being pretty strong elemental this new era. To me this discrepancy simply says, the game’s balance has been restored or going to at least right direction so people with different style of game play get different value from diffent decks. 🙂

    Set 3 is absolutely great and I’m suddenly, for the first time, spoilt for choice.

    I used to make a deck and then have to pad it out with fillers but now I’m having to choose really carefully between which great card to take and which equally great card to leave out…

    I hope you get your cards really soon 🙂

    @Matthew, Luke75

    Great to hear from experienced EOJ players confirming the balance is back. I really can’t wait.

    @Fongy

    Until we get our cards in NA, I have a favor to ask you. Would you wipe those winny deck users by your concept decks? So by the time, I get back online I get to play against various concept decks. 🙂

    not having my own cards, but seeing (online) and hearing (german-foren) that the biolith-phantom is TOTALLY overpowered: this function as Zolda with #of biolith-fields okay, but why he changes all fields to biolith? so only 2 Creatures can survivethis additional function: Disokuri and Eye-of-Juno

    that´s bigger crap than Zealots (before update)

    hope they´ll fix this card, because MANY people have had Scion´s Triumph in there Display-booster-boxes

    @ DarthMarkus1st

    Now then, now then, what’s all this fuss about Scion Triumphant?!?!
    Well, I’ve had him in my deck for a while…
    Now then…
    Firstly, you need two other bioliths and then another creature to either use ascension on or somehow use a white cubic when you have 2 other bioliths on the board… (no easy feat)
    So he’s like the UR dragons, really hard to put down…
    9 mana if you don’t have ascension…
    He only turns empty fields into biolith, so field bonuses (I think still apply)
    It’s not easy to get out, really not easy…
    Certainly not overpowered
    It’s only like Phaseus…
    Only got 8 health, so use didi a couple of times, etc. and he’s a gonner!
    🙂
    Don’t worry! It’s certainly no biolith battleship…
    No need to fix this card!

    @Fongy:
    thanks, then there´s translation-error on the german-card!

    are you sure that White Cubic doesn´t work when there aren´t 2 Biolith-figures on board? normaly says “summon any creature”…

    btw: biolith-battleship wasn´t that strong IMHO, now it´s “eggs” are broken 😉

    @ DarthMarkus1st

    Oh no, sorry, the white cubic DOES work with two other bioliths, but the realistic chance of it working (i.e. you not killing the cubic) is pretty remote…
    I didn’t think the battleship was overpowered either…
    I think it was a shame it was caught up in the zealot frenzy, however, there’s more than enough ways of getting that card back to its former glory!

    @ DarthMarkus

    I’ve tested this and confirm that the white cubic can’t bring creatures in to play when their basis summoning restrictions aren’t met.

    So, for example, you can’t bring a new UR dragon in to play unless there are two creatures of the right element. Also, you can’t bring Scion Trumphant in with the Cubic unless there are already two Biolith creatures on the board.

    However – to be clear – they don’t have to be allied Biolith, just Biolith.

    Also, as Fongy touched on – empty squares become *also Biolith*, they don’t become exclusively Biolith.

    Scion Triumphant really isn’t all that tough. Honestly.

    Oh by the way, say you had, for sake of argument, a red cubic and a flame magus – you could bring the Raging Pyrathrax in at this point. Even though the red cubic will be sacrified – at the point of making that sacrifice, two fire creatures are on the board and therefore it’s allowed.

    Hope this all makes sense.

  22. I think this is “a little” offtopic, but i agree with the biolith battleship part, it wasnt overpowered, now after they changed it, its just a really expensive piece of crap ^^ they really should change that one back as it was before.
