【HEX】HEX vs. MTG ~ Resource System ~

With a recent lawsuit, I have decided revisit the assessment of similarities and differences between the Magic the Gathering and HEX.  The original article I have written back in last year was prior to the actual game release of the HEX, so primarily written based on the available information from the developers.  Now we are roughly 8 months into the game since the first public alpha release, how do they compare?  This time I am going to look at piece by piece.  Let’s start with the foundation of the game, the resource system.

【HEX】 Chain Mechanics Partially Restored

An month ago when Cryptozoic announced the latest patch included change to the chain mechanics where event triggered ability no longer goes into the chain incited quite controversy, especially ones against the changes.  I for one personally felt somewhat against the change as well, mainly not because of the direct impact to what we have now but rather losing flexibility for the future.  If you are interested regarding to this topic back when this was originally introduced, you can check here.  However, the most recent update actually reverted part of the change.  So it’s time to take another look about this topic as this sort of change really affects the overall game’s design direction in the future.

【HEX】Evolution or Regression? ~ Change in Chain Mechanics ~

This is rather a hot topic in HEX community right now because the most recent patch included the change.  I, personally, chose HEX over many other great dTCG out there because of its potential and flexibility of “almost I can do anything I want.”  Aside from the Magic the Gathering Online, I really had not seen any other dTCG that used true dyanamic interactive play (DIP) style system.  Then HEX came out, but is this about to change, or not?
